The SIG Sauer MCX Spear in 7.62x51mm NATO is the civilian semi-automatic version of the rifle that SIG submitted to the U.S. Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program, the same platform that became the XM7 service rifle. The MCX Spear is built around a short-stroke gas-piston system with a two-position adjustable gas valve for suppressed and unsuppressed use, and a 16-inch cold hammer forged steel barrel with a 1:10 twist extracts maximum accuracy from 7.62 NATO ammunition. The fully ambidextrous controls, folding Magpul SL-M stock, and rear and side non-reciprocating charging handles make the Spear as ergonomically capable as it is mechanically refined.

The MCX Spear's modular architecture allows barrel swaps in the field without specialized tools, and the free-floating M-LOK handguard provides a clean, accessory-ready platform from forend tip to receiver. SIG's Matchlite Duo curved match trigger provides a precise break that enhances accuracy at extended ranges. At 8.9 pounds with a 16-inch barrel, the Spear is not a lightweight rifle, but it delivers the mechanical foundation of the rifle that replaced the M4 in U.S. Army service, a genuine piece of firearms history available in semi-automatic form for civilian ownership.
